Take the stress out of getting Dressed–LITERALLY!

Every now and then the technology world makes life a little bit easier for us. Well, in this case they’ve helped take the stress out of getting dressed! StyleBook has become my new obsession. So, what is it? StyleBook is basically a virtual wardrobe, it allows you to organize your clothes, style looks, create packing guides, and add outfits to a calendar – all using pieces you already own. Stylebook is extremely user-friendly and available on your iphone or ipad. Here’s the rundown of how to use it and what it does for you!

-Take pictures of items you own i.e. clothing and accessories that you would want to use in outfits (works best if taken on all white background, a white sheet works well)

-The app automatically edits and outlines the pictures, then all you have to do is organize them according to your preferred category (tops, pants, shoes)

-Next you can create complete outfits by using the pieces you’ve uploaded and organized–you can even categorize the looks based on your life roles i.e. work, saturday night, luncheons etc.

-Some great extra features of this app include the packing guide (great to add looks to and helps you avoid over packing), the calendar (add looks you wore or will wear to the calendar to help you remember and not wear the same outfits with the same people, the app will also keep stats for you) and the ability to add inspiration pictures you may come across!

Stylebook is truly revolutionary and one of the best tools to take the stress out of getting dressed (next to hiring me, of course:))))

TAKE THE STRESS OUT OF YOUR NIGHTS!

It’s couch potato time as the best of mindless fashion tv returns this week:

-Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski (the fashionable frenemies shows air back to back on Bravo Wednesday night)

-They are also paired with new show Dukes of Melrose about designer consignment (from well-known vintage mecca – Decades).

- And then on Friday night, Fashion Star with Nicole Richie (the premise – contestants compete to sell their designs in retail stores) is back with train wreck watching appeal.

So grab your favorite pj’s and watch as the famous become totally unhinged about getting dressed. Ba-na-nas.

Curated Craze

All the new rave seems to be surrounded by these subscription based companies that focus on a curated selection of merchandise and products, saving you the work of finding the new “best” thing. Take “Joyus” for example, it’s a website that gives a brief tutorial on each product and why its great. It’s free to join, and you have the option to buy the promoted items. There’s also “Birchbox” which caters to men and women. Every month for a fee of $10-$30 you’ll receive a package that ranges from cosmetics, gift cards, accessories, and sometimes even apparel items. What’s in the box changes monthly and the content is disclosed. Should you like what you find, you again have the option of purchasing the full size item from their website. Or “Svbscription”, the luxury box for men that is sent quarterly at $350 per quarter. This one differs greatly in price than most but it does offer items from designers like Loro Piana and Tom Ford. These are just a few of the companies catering to this trend – trust us, there are plenty!

Here at Hallie Abrams Wardrobe Consulting our thoughts on this differ a quite a bit. While some of us like the idea of being surprised monthly and potentially finding a new product we love, that we may have never found otherwise. There are some of us who don’t care to pay a fee without knowing what we’re going to get. There’s certainly a chance you won’t like or use everything that’s sent to you.

Have you guys used any of  these? Would you? We want to know!

Heres a list of some of these companies for you to take a closer look: Svbscription , Joyus , Birchbox , ShoeMint  , JewelMint

Golden Globe Red Carpet Report!

We tried to resist but couldn’t help it! Award season is highly anticipated and we were glued to the T.V. screen for none other than the highly anticipated red carpet! There were some hits, some misses, and some that needed tweaking, but we want to focus on the few who hit it out of the park from head to toe. So without further adieu here are our picks from the Golden Globes!

Kerry Washington:

Completely stunning! The hair was modern and added a nice edge to such this delicate sheer beaded dress. The nude flesh tone is completely on trend and I love how it was carried through from the accessories to the manicure. The midi-length of the dress complemented the perfect pointed toe shoe. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

 Kate Hudson:

Kate-Hudson

This is honestly one of the best looks I’ve seen on Kate Hudson! I’m a sucker for a long sleeve black dress but this took It to another level. The gold detail on the waist along with the mermaid cut gives the illusion of a beautiful hourglass shape. The plunging keyhole adds the perfect dose of sexy since the rest of her is completely covered. Her make up is fresh and a great contrast to the dark and dramatic gown.

Julianne Hough:

This is the epitome of cool. Ball gowns can be very “girly” but she managed to add some punk princess to the look. The gold beading adds a gilded edge to the soft winter white. Her oxblood clutch and nails were the perfect deep punch of color to aid the regal element. I love that her hair was out of her face, it allowed the neckline to shine!

Marion Cotillard:Marion_Cotillard__GoldenGlobes2013_2

This color popped! The perfectly paired red pointed shoe was spot on and complimented by the asymmetrical cut of the dress. The half exposed metallic belt added a bit of structure to accentuate her waist. Her straight her with a middle part pulled behind her ears is sleek. I love the cool grey nail polish against the bright red. This look was refreshing!

Which Red Carpet look do you love?

What to give the man who likes to look good, but hates to shop!

What to give the man who likes to look good, but hates to shop (Sound Familiar?) by. Erin Pollock

So, a few months ago I gifted my husband with the perfect experience – wait for it – the no shopping/ shopping experience. It’s called J. Hillburn, and it’s custom clothing brought right to your home. Let me explain this painless process – 1. Hillburn rep shows up. 2. Husband takes break during half-time of whatever game he’s watching 3. Husband is measured for exact fit. 4. Fabrics are picked (in our case, a collaborative effort between my hubby, me, and a J. Hillburn expert) 4. Bam – Shirts/Pants/Jackets and ready-to-wear (beautiful cashmere sweater) ordered all before game resumes.

It really is a modern way to outfit your man without inevitably leaving him sitting on the ledge of some mall fountain while you forget all about shopping for him as your radar naturally leads you to the ladies shoe department (which could mean, let’s face it, abandoning him for hours)

Anyway, if my anecdote isn’t enough to convince you, allow me to tell you what Hallie and Anastasia can offer this holiday (yes, they are now repping J. Hillburn!) These lovely and talented ladies are willing to throw in a 1 hour free consultation with the purchase of a $150 gift card (that’s a custom shirt and consultation with these fashion experts – A $225 value).

And with that I say, may you all have a very Happy Hilburn Holiday.

Fashion Hmmmmms by Erin Pollock

Can someone out there please educate me?

If you’ve been invited to an event, a wedding, a bar mitzvah, an anniversary party, etc.. (and odds are you have), you have received an invite. And on the invite there is usually a dress code. So, that being said, you should have a clear picture of what to wear – I mean it’s written (or embossed) in front of you. Right? Wrong, because it never makes sense. Ever.  Here’s what I mean –
Black-tie optional  – Really, what’s the optional all about? I never want to be under-dressed so I tend to land on the dressier side of things, but then I never want to be over-dressed either… Can’t someone just tell me what they want?

Dressy casual – Oxymoron if I’ve ever seen one. Hello? Aren’t dressy and casual two totally different things?

Country club attire – What is this the 1950”s? I picture white gloves and shift dresses

And my favorite, the invite said “Night Club Fabulous” – I haven’t been to a nightclub since I had kids. I don’t know about anyone else.

It would be great if someone could create a little handbook, a glossary so to speak, with the terms and little pictures of appropriate clothing next to them to help take all the guess-work out of this. Hallie, are you listening?

Actually, maybe Hallie can help (how about that for an idea?)

Post what befuddles you here and Hallie will answer our questions later in the week.
